The Role
Johnnie-O is looking for a collaborative, people-centric, and operationally savvy candidate to join our growing team in Raleigh, NC. This role will provide full-spectrum support to our brick-and-mortar retail fleet, working closely with our store teams, store leadership, and central leadership to drive our people strategy and uphold the Johnnie-O culture across locations. This role is based in our Raleigh office, with occasional travel to stores as needed.

Responsibilities
 

  • Provide hands-on support for Johnnie-O retail stores, including recruitment, employee relations, local compliance, talent management, and general personnel related inquiries.
  • Partner with the centralized Johnnie-O leadership and retail operations teams to develop and implement HR initiatives aligned with broader company goals and the brand’s people-first values.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with store leadership teams - promoting a culture of open communication, accountability, and inclusivity.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for employee relations matters in the field, offering counsel and support to store managers and escalating as appropriate.
  • Lead or support investigations related to employee conduct, working closely with legal and senior leadership to ensure timely, thorough, and fair outcomes.
  • Manage the full recruitment lifecycle for retail roles - from job posting through onboarding - ensuring a smooth and brand-aligned experience for candidates and hiring managers.
  • Monitor and support payroll planning and staffing to ensure stores are resourced in alignment with sales goals and labor budgets.
  • Ensure a consistent and engaging onboarding experience through use of Johnnie-O’s programs and tools, setting new hires up for success and long-term retention.
  • Support off boarding procedures, including documentation, final pay, and conducting exit interviews to capture feedback and insights.
  • Collaborate with leadership on people strategies that drive employee engagement, talent development, succession planning, and overall team performance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all assigned locations and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Johnnie-O retail processes in the field - such as performance reviews, policy rollouts, open enrollment, etc.
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc reporting as needed to support leadership and drive decision-making.
  • Stay current on employment regulations and best practices, ensuring Johnnie-O remains compliant and competitive in its’ practices.
  • Serve as a resource to field employees regarding policy, benefits, leave programs, short-term disability, and other employment-related matters - coordinating with central HQ or external partners as necessary.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes, identifying areas for operational efficiency and better employee experience.

Skills/Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Human Resources, ideally supporting retail environments.
  • Deep understanding of the unique challenges and needs within brick-and-mortar retail; prior experience in a lifestyle, apparel, or luxury retail brand a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Solid knowledge of employment law and HR compliance, particularly across multiple states.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of juggling multiple priorities with a solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Strong sense of initiative and ownership, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with ADP and other HR platforms a plus.
